Two long, large and wide beaches as well as fine restaurants, complete water activities, golf, antique shops, art studios, a trolley museum and a monastery are tastefully located among beautiful residential areas which give the Kennebunks the cachet of total tourist experience.
There ought to be a saying in the Kennebunks, “If we’re good enough for Presidents, we should be good enough for everyone.” And there is something for everyone in these historic and quaint villages offering any visitor a complete menu of attractions. In addition, the area’s appeal is enhanced by the breath-taking Walker’s Point, the long time and current family summer home of former President George Bush who on occasion, during the summer, hosts the second President Bush there. The town of Kennebunk proper houses a variety of non-retail business firms but it also offers an attractive sketch of adjoining shops and restaurants. Kennebunkport, on the other hand, is closer to ocean and Its Lower Village commercial area is oriented more to the tourist with its numerous restaurants and curio shops in addition to its docking area for whale watching excursions, coastal boat tours and daily fishing excursions. The appeal of the Kennebunks is its navigability, allowing visitors to get around by foot, hike or car. And when it comes to food and housing, there’s a complete range in price scale of inns, hotels and motels along with plenty of dining establishments from the quick snack variety to award- winning gourmet restaurants. The Kennebunks have long been the second home locations for numerous and notable business and political personalities and its northern environs known as Arundel, Goose Rocks Beach and Cape Porpoise have some of the most gracious and loveliest homes in all of southern Maine. |
