If Southern Connecticut’s beauty, beaches, and attractions were not enough reason to visit, here is one more. Although the Morgan Inn is conveniently located five minutes away from the beach and is easily assessable, right on one of Pawcatuck’s main roads, when you pull into the driveway you have no choice but to immediately succumb to the peace and nostalgia.
Whether you use the inn as a base to explore the region or a haven to sit back and relax the Morgan Inn has something for everyone. Even before you enter the front door you are called to stop and reminisce, as you look at all the antiques on the front porch and that also fill the inn bringing visitors back to the simpler times of the 1940’s. Whether you lived through the period or it reminds you your grandmother’s house you could spend all trip rediscovering our past. Each room, themed and named to the big band greats, such as Sentimental Journey and As Time Goes By, has it’s own unique dcor and charm. It is the little extras that make the Morgan Inn more then a bed and a breakfast. Each room has their own TV and VCR. You can go raid the communal video stock filled with both classic movies as well as some more resent films. You can’t help but smile as you walk into one of the rooms, turn on the old fashion radio, and immerse your soul in the music playing on the local jazz station. If peace and relaxation is what you crave you can head out to the gardens where you can sit in a screened in gazebo. As if in a storybook I was greeted in the garden by a quite friendly Cottontail rabbit. Some of the rooms provide access to this sanctuary by a semiprivate deck hat overlooks the gardens. Lastly, if peace and nostalgia weren’t enough reason to visit then Linda’s breakfast is. Wake up in the dinning room where you can enjoy a number of different teas or coffee. Enjoy the period music as you dine by candlelight. Breakfast usually includes anything from an assortment of muffins and other baked goods to Portuguese sweet bread French toast. The Morgan Street Inn is more then lodging; it’s a destination in of itself. So the next time your looking for a nice romantic weekend away or just a sentimental trip to a simpler time let it be the Morgan Inn.
